Poush Sankranti er Shubhecha. I hope this year’s Poush Sankranti er Shubhecha. I hope this year’s Sankranti brings cheer, prosperity and peace in our  life. Sankranti: the harvesting festival is celebrated across India. In Bengal it is celebrated on the last day of Poush Mash ( the month of poush in Bengali calendar). This is an important day for farmers as they pray to sun god for rich yield. In modern life our relationship with food and the farmers is far removed. It was not like this for my parents. My baba and ma still talk about their  home where ‘dhan’ (paddy) of various kinds will come and fill up the ‘uthan’. How everyone will come together to celebrate nobbanno. Everyone Worked together to get rice ( boiling, beating, cleaning and drying) for the whole year! No , farmers were not better off in those days as well. But unlike now they were not invisible. They were very much part of my parents life. We celebrate sankranti in such grandiose but totally forgot that farmers at this moment are on the streets fighting for their rights! Let us celebrate the people who give us harvest and food on our plates. Without them we will be nothing.

I think first train ride of the year to visit my I think first  train ride of the year to visit my brother! After almost 8 months.
I love to cook Asian inspired food- specially on w I love to cook Asian inspired food- specially on working days.  Being a kolkatan, I have a deep relationship with kolkata -Chinese.I guess the love for Asian food and Asian inspired food stems from that deep rooted connection.I cook some form of Asian food every week- either reading a recipe online or after watching Korean TV( I am hooked to their TV and have started to pick up the language )or by using the various spices and condiments that I keep buying- without following any recipes. Just following my taste buds. I cooked this egg noddles with Tom yum paste, shiitake mushroom, bok Choy and prawns. It’s the ultimate work day lunch which took me 30 mins to cook n eat. 

What I did: 
Minced 4/5 pod of garlics, thin sliced one red onion. Used 250g of shiitake mushroom, 200g bok choy , 350g prawns 
  Chilli flakes salt, oil, Tom yum paste. Dark soy sauce, 2 table spoon sweet chilli sauce, 350g egg noodles 

Heated one table spoon of oil, fried the garlic and onion. Added the prawn and fried till they turned pink. Once the prawns were fried added the mushrooms and bok Choi. After about 5 mins added chilli flakes, say sauce, Tom yum paste, sweet chilli sauce and salt as per taste. Cooked for 5mins. While I was doing this on another gas I was boiling thr noodle as per the pack instruction. 
Once the noodle was done added it to the prawn mushrooms and bok Choi and mixed well. 

I ate mine one with added chilli garlic oil. 
 This was really yummy and we could eat a good portion.
